Susan Guidry Enters Race for Council District A

November 20, 2009

New Orleans -  Community activist and attorney Susan Guidry announced her candidacy today for Orleans Council District A. As councilmember, she pledges to push for accountability and reforms in New Orleans city government. Guidry is a native of New Orleans who has spent many years advocating for local neighborhoods, most recently working to speed recovery efforts necessitated by the failure of the federal levees following Hurricane Katrina.  Guidry is a Democrat.  District A is being vacated by Shelley Midura, who has chosen not to seek re-election.

“We have worked too hard and come too far to allow the city we love to slide back into the politics of the past,” said Guidry. “The upcoming city council elections will shape the future of New Orleans. Although we have made many strides since Hurricane Katrina, blighted property, rampant crime and backroom deals continue to slow the pace of our recovery.”

“For over 20 years I’ve actively fought to make our neighborhoods stronger and I’ve seen what can be accomplished when we have representation on the City Council that is focused on the priorities of the people.  I’m running for Council District A because our citizens deserve leadership that will act with their interests in mind. New Orleans needs continued government reforms, enthusiastic leadership and thoughtful solutions, and that’s what I plan to offer as the next Councilwoman from District A.”

Susan Guidry is the President of the Parkview Neighborhood Association, and a Member of the District A Neighborhood President’s Council, District 5 Neighborhood Recovery Steering Committee, Mid-City Security District Board of Commissioners, Bayou St. John Conservation Alliance Steering Committee, Mid-City Neighborhood Association, Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association, and Friends of Lafitte Corridor. She is a graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School, the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Loyola School of Law.

Susan can be reached by email at GuidryDistrictA@cox.net.  The election will be February 6, 2010.
