Councilmember Shelley Midura Endorses Susan Guidry for Council District A

December 21, 2009

New Orleans—Today current District A Councilmember Shelley Midura endorsed Susan Guidry to take her place on the City Council. Midura is not running for a second term.

“I’m endorsing Susan Guidry for District A Council because of my desire to see the progress continue that the current City Council has made,” said Midura. “Through her professional experience and community involvement, Susan Guidry has demonstrated the commitment of purpose, tenacity and effectiveness required to make her a great member of the City Council.”

Susan Guidry is an attorney who represented the Port of New Orleans successfully in its Katrina claims against its insurance company. She is also the Parkview Neighborhood Association President who got the nuisance bar, Lyric Café, closed down.

“The qualities that I like most about Susan are her unwavering commitment to open and transparent government, her courage to challenge the status quo,” said Midura. “We can’t change the way things are done in New Orleans politics if we keep sending the same old politicians back to City Hall. The people of District A deserve the kind of representation that will stand up to business-as-usual politicians and Susan Guidry can deliver that type of strong leadership.”

“I am proud to receive Councilmember Midura’s endorsement today,” said Guidry. I have been inspired by Councilwoman Midura’s leadership, courage and ability to get things done. I am running to make sure the next City Council continues passing the reforms that Councilmember Midura has pushed for.”
